If any software is needed, it probably means that the books are
protected by DRM, or digital rights management. Basically, a
little tag tells the computer it is okay to play the file. If
the file is missing its tag, or (as in the case of the BN) the
tag cannot be read, the file will not play. I hate copyrights
sometimes.
