Dear Richard,

What you have said is true. But a person could say, "If I don't have my
unit by -- date, I'll ask for my money back and/or put a hold on the check
or dispute on the credit card and buy a BrailleSense from GW Micro." They
are of course, two different species, but if a person needs a notetaker
IMMEDIATELY, and the competition has theirs in stock, then the person has an
option. And since Humanware doesn't want to lose a customer, they'd want to
jack things up and send the BN immediately.

: Although I believe that this situation is unfortunate, I must state that
: there are no members of this list who are not employees of Humanware
: that can do anything to change it.
: Perhaps this issue should be directed at Humanware's CEO or some other
: individual within the company who might listen.
: What is reflected here is this. Blind consumers are not in a position
: to choose.
: If you want a Braillenote you have to purchase it from Humanware.
: If you want a Pac Mate, you have to purchase it from Freedom Scientific.
: Neither company, nor any other companies in this field are under any
: great pressure to insure that products are delivered in a timely manner
: or that proper quality control is maintained.
: Why? Because, people who want or need these products don't have other
: places to go to get them.
: If the companies in the Blindness field were selling mainstream products
: to mainstream consumers, they would find themselves out of business
: fairly quickly.
: This is not an attempt to criticize the quality and the usefulness of
: any given product. It isn't the products that are in question. It's
: simply that if I wanted to purchase a computer from a major
: manufacturer, and if I were told that the model I wanted wouldn't be
: available for eight weeks or more, I could go to another manufacturer
: and purchase a similar model. Blind consumers can't do that, and
: accordingly there is no reason for companies in this field to improve
: their service. They're gonna get your money anyway, so there is no
: impetus!

: Well listers, obviously I didn't receive my m power last week as
: promised. You know, I sincerely appreciate all of you that took the
: time to reply to my previous posts regarding my situation with
: Humanware, and I've honestly taken all of the advice from you in the
: spirit in which it was intended. However, this whole thing is really
: beginning to get just a bit ridiculous now. Initially the story was
: that they expected to have a shipment of BT units in sometime during the
: week of the 24th of April. Well, that time has come and gone, and no
: voicenote BT m power unit for me. So, when I call to inquire about
: where the unit is, I was promptly told that now they don't expect to get
: any BT units in from New Zealand until the second week in May. Yes, I'm
: being asked to continue my senseless waiting for possibly another week
: or two, and who knows whether or not they will even get the units then?
: To the people in New Zealand, will you please do whatever is needed to
: expedite ship
: ment of the units that customers are still waiting for since march and
: probably beyond? Certainly this isn't the impression that Humanware
: wishes to leave future customers with is it? In my personal opinion,
: this is really an ignominious way of doing business, and although I
: deeply respect those at Humanware that give it their all to bring us
: products that continue to empower those of us who are sight impaired or
: disabled in any other way, I remain convinced that more could be done to
: amicably resolve issues like my own. Let's face it folks, how long will
: the same old excuse that the wait is do to there being such a high
: demand for the units continue to be a viable one? So in closing, it is
: with all due deference that I renew my request that the person or
: persons in New Zealand that can effectuate some means of ameliorating
: this situation please do so, and that such steps are taken as
: expeditiously as possible. Please! can someone out here on this list
: help make the cas
: e for me and so many others like me that are still being forced to wait
: like this? That is, will you please assist me in compelling the people
: in New Zealand to get with it and send these units out so that those of
: us that have already paid for them can start to enjoy them? I sincerely
: hope that my appeal to Humanware doesn't end up being disregarded, and
: that by the end of next week my m power will finally be on it's way
: home. Thanks in advance to all of you. Isaih
