Yeah, we're happy all right. We've noticed something else though. This is that, now we have WEP enabled, the BN's are connecting quite a bit slower and sometimes (in certain parts of the house) don't make it. It's as if the signal needs to be even stronger now and we don't have a very good one anyway. Hmmm! Well, that's for another day, when I've had some sleep. Of course, I'd welcome any comments from others who may have experienced similar behaviour - and I still want to know why the PK lets me cut and paste that WEP key and shows it but the mPower does not! Goodnight now and thanks! -- Carol [EMAIL PROTECTED] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sarah Cranston" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Braillenote List" <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, May 05, 2006 9:12 PM Subject: RE: [Braillenote] BN PK AND MPOWER CONNECTIONS AT HOME! Carol, Yippeeee! I'm so glad it worked! I don't know what the problem possibly could have been, it really sounded like you did everything right in the first place, but the mPower, in its infinite wisdom, obviously felt diferently. [Grin] All I know is that I encountered the same problem once before, and that's what ended up fixing it. Happy BrailleNoting to you and your husband! Sarah, Well, it worked! Three cheers! So what was the problem? Any ideas! -- Carol [EMAIL PROTECTED] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sarah Cranston" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Braillenote List" <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, May 05, 2006 6:02 PM Subject: RE: [Braillenote] BN PK AND MPOWER CONNECTIONS AT HOME! Hi Carol, I'm trying to figure out what might be your WEP problem. I have no experience with the longer, 26-digit keys, (we use a ten-digit key on our network at home), so here's to hoping that's not where the difficulty lies. One thing you could try is to copy the file called "connection configurations.cdb" from the Keylist folder on the PK and put it in the Keylist folder on the flash disk. If you decide to try this, perform a reset immediately after the file copies over. Let me know how this works, and meanwhile I'll be racking my brain for any other bright ideas. Hi to all, Well, for some time now our BN wireless connections haven't been too safe, without a WEP key being used. I finally found the software today and set about to change things. I should explain that as well as a Linksys hard wire router we addded an additional Linksys Access Point when we wanted to go wireless with our BN's. OK, all well and good. Some while back, I originally set up the mPower, not understanding fully about the need for a WEP key, so we left that option at "No". We then added the PK and of course they both worked out of the box. Today we ran the Access Point software to change the WEP key setting to "Yes" and opted to have a key encripted using the password I'd chosen (perhaps a wrong choice here). Well, we got the key and it's 26 characters in length. (Suffice it to say that I don't wish to remember it!) I think somewhere along the line we also had to choose a level of incription and we chose 128. (Perhaps this was also a mistake.) Having run the software and obtained the key, first I made a small file containing the key and then made changes to our original connection in the PK, pasting the key from the clipboard. It didn't work immediately and I needed to change the 802.1 X Authentification level to 2. After a reboot I was in business! When it came to the mPower, however, things didn't go the same way or as well for us and we're still locked out at the time of writing! . . .. First I again attempted to change an original connection setup. When I went to paste the WEP key I found not only that I couldn't do this with the mPower but that I was in a totally different menu. In fact, it was as though I was looking up addresses and the Block Menu presented gave options to manipulate records, as in the database "copy", "print" etc. After some reboots etc., I deleted that connection and made a brand new one, entering the key manually and I did so very carefully! I also noted that the characters didn't speak as I wrote (as with the PK) and appear now only as five stars (asterisks), whereas I can still read that WEP key on the PK. I tried the Authentification Levels at all possible settings, reboots etc., but nothing has worked! Now, what next! I've left my poor husband without his email connection, though he can (thankfully) use the mobile phone in this "emergency" <SMILE> Any suggestions/observations will be most welcome! -- Carol [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ To leave the BrailleNote list, send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To view the list archives or change your preferences, visit http://list.humanware.com/mailman/listinfo/braillenote ___ To leave the BrailleNote list, send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To view the list archives or change your preferences, visit http://list.humanware.com/mailman/listinfo/braillenote __________ NOD32 1.1522 (20060505) Information __________ This message was checked by NOD32 antivirus system. http://www.eset.com ___ To leave the BrailleNote list, send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To view the list archives or change your preferences, visit http://list.humanware.com/mailman/listinfo/braillenote ___ To leave the BrailleNote list, send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To view the list archives or change your preferences, visit http://list.humanware.com/mailman/listinfo/braillenote __________ NOD32 1.1523 (20060505) Information __________ This message was checked by NOD32 antivirus system. http://www.eset.com ___ To leave the BrailleNote list, send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To view the list archives or change your preferences, visit http://list.humanware.com/mailman/listinfo/braillenote ___ To leave the BrailleNote list, send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To view the list archives or change your preferences, visit http://list.humanware.com/mailman/listinfo/braillenote
