There seems to be a bit of a misunderstanding here. The remote synth option
enables the BN or VN to act as a speech synthesizer for the screen reader.
It's kind of like the screen reader's mouth. The screen reader itself, on the
other hand, is a very complex piece of software that interacts with the video
card in the computer and takes what's being sent to the video card, mainly
text, and passes it through to the speech synthesizer. A computer with a
speech synthesizer but no screen reader is like a person with a mouth to speak
with but no brain with which to think.

I hope this analogy helps to clear things up. Most screen readers these days
come bundled with a software synth, such as Eloquence or Dectalk Access. The
BN provides an additional voice with which the screen reader can speak, but
that's all it is, a voice.

So does this mean that all speech will be heard via the voicenote or
braillenote unit? If you answer in the affirmative, then why is it required
that we even have a screen reader at all? Perhaps there's lots about all of
this that I have yet to learn, but like the person that initiated this
question, I'm interested in learning how to use this feature on the voicenote.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. Isaih
