Ottawa Canada

You know any time I have spoken with Judy Dixon on the telephone
or corresponded with her, she has come across as pretty candid
and outgoing.

I wouldn't be surprised if her "canned replies" are what she has
been told to send out in response to enquiries about the
curtailment of Web Braille.

Let's not mean mouth Ms Dixon too much. I haven't spoken with
her about the Web Braille situation and my input as a Canadian
would not count for much as it is a service specifically open to
eligible Americans.

I'm not sure what the specific concerns that have lead to the
curtailment of Web Braille are, but from the tone of Chris Grey,
the President of ACB's call for action on the ACB-L mailing list,
it seems someone at NLS got seriously concerned over either
copyright infringement that has already occurred, or that could
occur. If you would like to see his post, please e-mail me
privately, as the BrailleNote list is NOT an appropriate forum to
re-post Chris Grey's call for action.

Also, NLS is funded by the hard-earned tax dollars of Congress,
so it must live with the strings that come firmly attached to
those dollars.

I'm not trying to put words in anyone's mouth, but I've worked in
government and know that in Canada at least, even government has
to observe the law.

Brian
