Dear Lisa and All:

Lisa, tht was a great note you sent Mr. Clyde! Well Done!

I solve the problem of reading in bed or late at night by reading braille magazines which are still available. As for reading with the BN outdoors in hot weather: It can be a problem in humid areas, and I usually read braille magazines outside.

I agree that hard copy braille books from NLS are hard to deal with (hevy boxes, space consuming, and a challenge to get to the P.O. to send back). Still, as Ann Parsons pointed out, the majority of blidn braille readers in the US don't have a braille device because of the cost, so it will be a long time before hard copy brialle disappears. It would be very costly for NLS to supply BNs or other braille devices to braille readers. I haven't borrowed any hardcopy books from NLS in years.

FYI, National Braille Press still provides some books in paper braille that don't have hard covers like the Harry Potter series and the new book about Louis Braille.

I am curious about the Digital Talking Books NLS is going to provide soon. Are these books available in text daisy format (like the daisy books on bookshare.org) or are they in audio format only? If they are available in text daisy format, braille readers would have access to more books on web braille, but I doubt theya re in text daisy format. Does anyone know?

Barb
