Hi Rose:
I am also glad that the BrailleNote is not the only option. Havwithing said that, though, I am spending some wonderful time with my wife watching TV, talking and reading my mail. The desktop is in the bck of the house. One thing that I did yesterday was to limit the amount of email to about 200 at a time and then I abandoned the session when the last message was downloaded. Once I started doing this, my messages were downloaded in about fifteeen minutes. The other thing I do was not to download long messages. I save those for the big computer. Don't totally give up on the BN for your mail. And, oh yes, I agree with you regarding filtering. I hope, in my lifetime, that the MPower will have this feature.

I used the BN to receive e-mail two evenings while my computer
was down, and
frankly, I set up my husband's laptop to check my mail after that
because
the BN was much too slow and cumbersome to work with in the
e-mail
application. I received 359 messages one night and it took me
over five
hours to work through them, something that I can usually manage
in less than
an hour using Jaws, depending on how many messages I really need
to read. I
could not locate the personal messages sent to me as I prefer to
get to
those first, deleting sometimes took over a minute to accomplish.
The lack
of filtering into separate boxes for each group I subscribe to is
a definite
issue also.

I have DSL superfast connection, not the normal 256 many have and
I was
using an Ambicom wireless card, the problem was not so much
downloading
messages, but dealing with them after they were on the BN.

I know I will never depend on the Braille Note as my only way to
collect
e-mail. I freed database space four times during the evening,
and still had
some mighty slow times in deleting messages.

I don't know what can be done about the E-mail client but I am
surely glad I
don't have to dependent on it day in and day out.

As a matter of fact, I have encountered much the same problem. I
am using a
Bt classic with version 7.0 on a DSL connection. My PC downloads
mail just
fine.
What happens with my BN is that the first 80 messages or so
download with
good speed and then the other messages download at a crawl.
A side issue is that lately, when I delete individual messages,
after the
sixth message, the BN hangs for about ten to twenty seconds and
then perms
the action to finish deleting the message.
The same thing happens if I decide to exit the inbox. After the
sixth
message has been sent to the trash folder, then the machine hangs
for about
ten to twenty seconds.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks.

As far as I know, the isp is fine. I used the free database
option,
but it still slow.
