Hmmm! the Function key is the one you're using; the one with the dot on it. Generally, if your machine goes into hibernation, I would try pressing Ctrl with Enter. That will wake it up, and won't hurt any documentation.

sorry which is the function key? the one I am using and which

when the machine is in sleep mode is the key on the left of the

called it the alt because that's what it is on a desk top machine

I say at all other times it works but if the machine hasn't been
used for 15
minutes or so and I press that combination then instead of
telling me the
time which it would normally do it sends me to the top of the
document.

If you're using a Qwerty, try Function with T.  On the BT, T with
Enter.  It should work.
