Yes!  The Pacmate dan do this by means of an off the shelf program that
runs on a PDA and makes use of the PDA's infrared port.  If you have a
PDA running Mobile Speak Pocket you may be able to do this.  Another
advantage of being able to run 3rd party software.

This isn't possible with the mPower, you might of been talking with a
Freedom Scientific rep; the PacMate is able to control things such as
these: stereo, tv, and other home appliances.
