I don't know anything about book edge but yes, It is pretty fast. I have to say it is fast compared to the hp scanner and openbook I started using in the year 2000. But I am sorry, I am not able to answer the question about book edge because I don't know what that machine is.

I bought the scannar 3 years ago and paid about 3000 dollars for
it.
You can find the information up on the humanware web site under
other products.
The Scannar is on a cannon flat bed scanner. It is just Kurzweil
built into a scanner. It is extremely simple to use and why I
bought it was you don't need to load it into a computer and no
drivers getting goofed up or any of that stuff.
It is very trouble-free too.
