I hear you. Recalibration has always been a pain in the backside for me. I tried letting my battery go flat and recharging, and still get the "battery needs recalibrating" message. So I tried it using o chord, i chord r, and supposedly it was discharging for seventeen hours when I stopped it. Yeah, right. I'm trying the process again, but as was the case before when I tried recalibrating, I won't know for several hours if it's stuck in an endless loop or not. How long should the entire process take?
