Penny,

Try to get one that works straight out of the box and doesn't have to have software installed. If you're only going to be using CF cards then if you can pick up a slightly older one which has only a CF slot then you may find it definitely works. I have one of these that I've had for a few years now.

Ask about sale or return - that's the best way I think, even if you're ordering by phone or online. You don't always gain by going into a store anyway as here in the UK they don't always have things available for you to see as they are all packaged up. I was annoyed, though understood, when I recently went to purchase new headphones and was told that, even if they weren't packed, I wouldn't be able to try them out for hygine reasons; so I had to make a choice based on specification and hearsay.

Hope this helps a bit.

Subject: Re: [Braillenote] BN doesn't see card

Oh I had thought yesterday of using a secondary card reader or slot to see the cf card. Could someone describe this a bit. I live in a rural spot and don't get to see the latest stuff too easily.
Well, this isn't too new, I grant you.
thanks so much.
help me to know what to look for when I go to buy one.

I also have cf cards which are not now "seen" by the mpower.
However, I've not thrown them away for I discovered that the mpower would read them via a cf card reader plugged into one of the usb ports. Why the unit wouldn't read them in the normal way" nobody has been able to tell me, but at least the cards can still be used. incidentally, I have marked the card cases with a letter b to denote their need for special treatment.
