It looks as though we will have to sign the agreement for each volume for the foreseeable future. What I understand is that it really wasn't NLS's fault.

Rumor, which is worth about what you pay for the information, is that someone asked in a public meeting about downloading the books and then converting or translating them using Braille translation software. Now, we all knew that this could be done, but we certainly didn't want publishers finding out about it. So NLS had to do something to keep the program alive at all. There is a lot of paranoia on the part of publishers right now, and not all of it is completely unjustified. Of course, I don't think that very many blind people were going to go out on the Internet and offer published books either for free or for sale, but we do have all kinds of people among us, and some might be less than honest. Others might do it out of perfect ignorance. And, of course, publishers might be afraid that individuals and companies, blind or not, might just go and buy a Braille translation program so that they can steal published books and sell them on the Internet. I don't know whether this is a real threat or not, but I do know how scared publishers are.

So I am afraid we're stuck with the inconvenience of having to agree to the terms for each volume.

If people would only learn to keep their mouths shut! But I personally think it was inevitable and could have been much worse.

Hello!

I have found the same thing! The NLS site only allows one to download one volume at a time! That has worked best for me! There may be a work around I don't know about but I find for me, logging in each time to get a volume works the best for now!

Hello Listers,

Well, I am happy to report that I'm back in business with
downloading books. The Patch works just fine.

On the ohter hand, I have been wondering if it is really
necessary to Log In after each book? Is it possible to download
more than one book during a "login" sessin?
If so, can you please provide me with the instructions?

Your friendly bookworm! (smile)
