The feature is called Safely rEmove Hardware. You can just disconnect the
hard drive and that's it.

I have never used any steps but just to wait until I'm as sure as I can be 
then unplug the drive.  Maybe others know better than I.  It's my husband's 
and I don't use it greatly these days as I use the PK on which it doesn't 
work.
