Why won't anything above 512 mb work?

I successfully upgraded with a 512MB SD card. I received an SD
card error
the first time I attempted to run the update, and after checking
the
available space on the card and deleting an old backup folder,
the update
progressed without a hitch. Before I freed up some space, the
card had 8MB
available, and Keysoft obviously needs more room than that in
order to
upgrade.

I thought that an SD card has to be less than 512 MB to be used
for installing a software upgrade, not up to and including 5122
MB.
