Subject: [BrailleNote] Changing the KeySoft's alarm sounds
Dear list members, particularly people who are anoyed by KeySoft's alarm
sounds,
There exists several ways of getting rid of these so called "anoying"
alarm
sounds that you hear when the alarm goes off. Basically, there are two
methods: through Rename process and ActiveSync, but I would say that
ActiveSync is more faster and secure. Before we jump, here are things that
you should know:
In order to accomplish this, you must keep in mind that these are system
files. Therefore, when you Reset your unit with dots 4-5-6 (JKL), the
files
will return to the factory defaults. Same applies when the batteries run
flat.
You should also be aware that HumanWare, its dealers, and personally,
myself
does not take responsibilities for ANY misuse of this instructions (please
do at your own risk).
Also, you should be familiar with:
System folder: a system folder is a folder where an operating system and
few
other softwares are stored. The instructions requires that you motify a
sound file in a system folder (in this case, Windows).
System sound: a system sound is a sound that are generated when certain
things e.g. new message, clicking on a link, happens.
In order to accomplish this, you'll need the following:
* 2 wave (.wav) files that are less than 5 seconds long (I would say about
3
seconds)
* A BrailleNote with the following requirements:
Classic: KeySoft 6.1x or higher
mPower: KeySoft 6.2.xx or higher
PK: KeySoft 6.0x or higher
ActiveSync connection in case of ActiveSync
Now we are done with this, let us start!
I'm going to start with ActiveSync:
1. On your PC, start ActiveSync. Ensure that your BrailleNote is connected
and recognized.
2. Start Windows Explorer (Windows+E). Navigate to the folder where you
saved the wave files (two files are needed and they must be 5 seconds or
less). Copy the files (CTRL+C).
3. Go to Mobile Device\Windows folder on your PC (or Mobile Device\My
Handheld PC\Windows).
4. Paste the files (CTRL\V).
5. Rename the first file to: Keysoft ALARM1.wav. Rename the second file
to:
Keysoft ALARM2.wav (F2). If it says about system files, say yes. You are
done.
Note: in some units/software versions, the Keysoft ALARM files might not
be
present. Paste the two files anyway for extra ensurance.
6. On your PC, quit Windows Explorer (Alt+F4). On your BrailleNote,
disconnect from ActiveSync and Reset your machine.
Now let us discuss the second option. There are two sub instructions:
Method 2A: without renaming the files:
1. Make sure that you know the location to where the two wave files are
stored. On your BrailleNote, go to File Manager/Copy.
2. At the source folder prompt, navigate to the folder where the files are
stored. At the source file prompt, select the two files (I recommend that
you use similar file names e.g. alarm1.wav, alarm2.wav, so the wild card
is
alarm*.wav).
3. At the destination drive, select Flash Disk. At the folder name prompt,
type Windows and say yes to confirmation message. The files will be
copied.
4. After it is done, go to Rename. Select Flash Disk\Windows folder and
select the first file. Type Keysoft ALARM1 and press enter, and when the
confirmation message appears, say yes. Do this for the second file, except
that you need to type Keysoft ALARM2 at the new name prompt. Reset your
machine.
Method 2B: using Windows folder:
1. Repeat steps 1 and 2 on method 2A.
2. At the destination drive, select KeySoft system disk. At the
destination
folder name, type Windows. Say yes to the confirmation messagen if
appears.
3. After it is done, repeat step 4. At the confirmation message, say yes.
Reset your machine.
Note: method 2A is safer than 2B because of the following reasons:
When you copy the files to the KeySoft system disk, when you press Reset
with dots 4-5-6 (JKL), the files will be gone and you need to repeat
method
2B again.
When the batteries run flat, you need to repeat method 2B.
Anything that is stored on the Windows folder on Flash Disk will be copied
to Windows folder on KeySoft system disk during normal use.
I hope this information may help you. If you need further assistance,
