Some DSL providers furnish modems which have routers built in, and some only furnish stand alone modems.

I don't quite understand why you have a separate modem and
router.  I use
DSL too, and my router has a built-in modem. I don't even use
the ethernet
connection, and all computers here are accessing the Internet OK
via
wireless connection.
