Hello Cindy and list,
Set up your M-power as follows:
Open an existing braille document preferably the one you wish to emboss.
While that document is opened, do the following:
Go to the format menu by pressing dots 2 3 4 6 with spacebar. Go to the
page setup menu. You can find this by spacing through the menu options or
simply type P and you will be there, press enter. The page setup menu
options are listed. By default, the page length is 25 (25 lines) and the
page width is 40 (40 spaces). If you are using narrow paper, change the
paper width to 32, (32 spaces)! Simply space to the paper width option and
type number sign 32 right there. Go back and forth with backspace and
spacebar to determine that the change was made if you feel you need
confirmation of this change. Once you exit the menu, the BN will ask,
"confirm changes?" Type Y for yes and the option will be changed to 32.
Don't change the default if you are using wide paper. You may need to
change it to 30 spaces if you are binding your pages but I'll have more to
say on that later. Exit this menu with E or Z with spacebar. Go back into
the format menu again and select the first option layout and press enter.
Look for the menu item which says, "Emboss page numbers? Currently no.
While on that option, type Y for yes if you want page numbers embossed. If
not, don't change the setting or type N for no. Exit this menu as before.
Go into the Keyword menu and select E to emboss the document. Your M-power
will ask, emboss or set up embosser? Type S to set up embosser. The first
two items you will see are paper length and width. Be sure these settings
agree with what you set up in the page settings menu, otherwise your
document will be a mess. If you used 25 length and 40 width in the page
setup list, use the same numbers in the embosser setup list. If you happen
to see "does your embosser emboss both sides of the page? Currently no is
the default. Leave it there if you see this option. Sometimes one mayh or
may not see this depending on various settings. Embosser port should be set
to serial by typing S for serial port. For now, your M-power is good to go
even though a few settings should be checked.
Setting up your Romeo RB25.
I'd recommend you use configuration menu two since this menu is set up for
serial port by default. There are sixteen configuration menus to choose
from in the Romeo. On the embosser keypad, type zero point two enter.
Change option 8 (handshaking) to DTR and CTS by typing eight point one on
the embosser keypad and press enter. Leave option 14 right margin and
option 15 left margin set to defaults. Your M-power will control the margin
of your document. Change option 17 (lines per page) to 25 rather than the
default 27. Change top of form to five tenths of an inch from the top (half
inch) by typing thirty point five enter. Type one point one on the embosser
keypad and press enter. Your new changes have been saved in menu two. I'd
go to menu one by typing zero point one enter on the embosser keypad.
Change option 17 to 25 lines a page by typing 17.25 enter on the embosser
keypad. Change top of form to a half inch from the top by typing 30.5 on
the embosser keypad. type one point 1 to go into the menu and save the new
changes. Go into menu two by typing zero point two enter, one point one
enter and you should be ready to emboss with the M-power. While in menu
two, emboss the menu settings. Do this if your embossing doesn't turn out
right. Check the baud rate and hand shaking. I believe these agree between
the M-power and Romeo. If not, get with me privately with any more
questions you may have.

I am simply using the serial port. Someone else sent me some instructions
for getting to the setup menu. I will try these as they may be the actual
problem but please feel free to send me any information you on working
with
the Romeo and mPower. This is my first embosser ever and I am still
pretty
much a novice when it comes to the BN.

Hi Cindy,
There has been much discussion about how to use the M-power to emboss
documents. There isn't a problem with the older Braillenote
units since
they have a parallel port. That works! The easiest way to
emboss with the
M-power to your Romeo is through the serial port. I wrote a
post about this
some time ago and if I find it, I'll pass it along. I wrote
out how to set
up the BN and the Romeo Embosser. If you want a parallel
port solution,
then I'd recommend getting the bluetake Bluetooth adapter
from Enabling
Technologies. There is also an infrared port adapter which I
purchased
through them as well and that works reasonably well. Once
you figure out
how you want to interface your Romeo to the M-power, you have
a wonderful
system for embossing documents. Please let me know which
specifics you want
me to elaborate on and I'll do so.

A used Romeo 25 that I got off ebay. I wouldn't think it would be the
embosser because I never get to the point of setting up the embosser.
Also, I have actually used the emboser with my PC. I'm
trying to determine
if it is embosser accurately. The only thing I had on the PC
was Kurzweil
1000 and the embosser spit out extra things that might be
format markings.
I downloaded the manual for the embosser and reset it to
factory settings so
I thought I would try it with the mPower to see if I can get something
embossed that does not contain these extra markings. I am
trying to see if
everything is okay with the embosser or if I need to have it repaired.
