devices. Packaged in a CompactFlash Type II housing and available
in 170MB, 340MB, 512MB, 1GB, 2GB, 4GB and above as the years
progress!
. This is a type of memory card. It is actually a very small
hard drive and come in very large capacities allowing you to save
thousands of pictures all on one card. The card is very similar
in size to a compact flash card and many cameras that can store
pictures on compact flash can also use microdrives as a cheaper
way to store hundreds of photos.
. The Microdrive is a miniature hard disk designed to fit in a
Compact Flash Type II slot. It was launched in 1999 with a
capacity of 340 MB, which was expanded to 4 GB by 2004. They
weigh about 16 g (~1/2 oz), with dimensions of 42.8×36.4×5 mm
(1.7×1.4×.2 in). From 1999 to 2003 they were commonly known as
IBM Microdrives, and from 2003 onward as Hitachi Microdrives.
Microdrive was a registrated trademark by IBM and Hitachi for
each period.
