David,
The Service Reset, or Engineer's Reset will do the following:
1. When Reset with Record is pressed, the power supply that connects with
the battery compartment will be temporarily turn off. After few seconds, it
will reconnect it.
2. The memory is reintialized that's why you should reset the time and date
after you perfom this particular reset).
