They really need to implement something more like Bookshare has. It is
not complicated and each book is identified as that particular
individual when you unlock it. RFB&D's system is ridiculous because
everyone has the same id and it never changes from year to year. I have
yet to figure out what is secure about that method.

I hear that RFB&D can be difficult to work with. Seems they have a
monopoly
and don't mind letting people know about it.

It's not a case of fees. I'm told by FS that RFB&D is just dragging
their
feet on this. Every time FS does what they believe they should to
comply
with the rules RFB&D comes up with something else. I agree that this
coded
system is a complete waste of time and is not in the best interest of
the
end users.

Is this really the case? Did FS only get approval for one version, or
could
it be possible that the fees haven't been payed or something?
I think that what needs to happen is that some smart blind person,
preferably outside of the USA, needs to crack this silly passcode thing
and
develop a way to rewrite passcode free versions of so called protected
books.
I'll bet that sighted people aren't all of a sudden going to run out and
purchase an expensive piece of software or equipment just to use these
books. To my knowledge, there is no widely available daisy player on the
general market.
I challenge someone to crack this nut. Rusty
