Pam,

When the file system for drives was originally developed, it was thought that we would never have a need to address storage devices which had a capacity that exceeded the value that can be stored in 16 bits. However, as drives got larger, it became necessary to have values that are larger than can be stored in 16 bits for addressing the storage units on the new larger drives. This is the reason that fat 32 came to be.

I don't know why the BN needs fat 16 for loading updates, when it reads fat 32 formatted cards just fine. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pam Quinn" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Subject: [Braillenote] question about fat16 and fat32

Hi,

I know for the purpose of upgrading, Fat16 is required. But what is
the difference between Fat16 and Fat32, and overall, which is better?

Pam
