Because of my job, I have access to PacMates.
I've done this.
Personally, it seemed a waste of time. It is a tedious process to get the commands programmed.
It is far easier to learn the remotes, at least for me.
But, everyone has their favorite uses for this technology. It is quite amazing that all of this stuff is even possible. I'd rather Humanware put their resources into a proper spreadsheet and financial calculations in the scientific calculator. But, that is only my opinion, and just remember; my opinion is worth every penny you paid for it, grin.

Hi Kasondra. If your satellite receiver has an infra-red remote control,
FSCommander will be able to learn it with your help.

In our own case at my home, we have a reader that visits us once a week.
Just the other day, I made every remote control in the house accessible via
PAC Mate. You can do this completely without sighted help if you are
familiar with what the buttons on your remote control do. If not, simply ask
a sighted person to work with you as you put FSCommander into Learn Mode.
The software will ask you to press a key on the PAC Mate, then to press a
key on the remote control. Following JAWS conventions of the key on its own
moving you forward, and shift with the key moving you back, I assigned v for
volume up, shift+V for volume down. C for Channel up,
shift+C for channel down etc. It's a very simple process, and of course
you can programme as many remotes this way as you want to. My PAC Mate now
controls our media system, our two separate air conditioning units and other
devices. I find myself using a lot more functions on these devices, because
I know exactly what keys perform what function. I should say that I was in a
bit of a hurry when our reader was here, so later, I was able to go back and
reassign some of the keys to make them more logical.

I'm sure you'll find this free utility really useful. You can download it
from our web site. The direct URL is
