1. Obtain access to a PC with a CompactFlash card reader attached.

2. Place the CompactFlash card into the reader and ensure that you can access it.

3. There are many ways to format a CompactFlash card from within the Windows environment, and only one is outlined here. If for some reason you need to use another method, consult your Windows documentation. Open Windows Explorer or My Computer and select the appropriate drive that refers to the CompactFlash card.

4.      Press SHIFT F10 to access the context menu.

5.      Choose Format from the popup menu.

6. A dialog will be presented with a number of different properties that can be set on the CompactFlash card and the one of interest is the one entitled "File System." Ensure that FAT is chosen from this combo box and not FAT32.

7. Navigate to the Start or OK button and press ENTER. You will be presented with a warning dialog, explaining that formatting will destroy all information on the card. If you are happy with this then you should choose Start or OK and continue with the formatting.
