I am currently running Keysoft 7.1 on my Braillenote Classic BT
and
hope, in a couple of months time, to upgrade to an Mpower.
Although I
can't wait, all the voicings of dissatisfaction with Keysoft 7.2
has
made me glad I was advised to wait until the bugs were worked out
of the
hardware.
I think it's a real shame that people like Paul and others who
have
already spent so much money on their machines now have to spend
more on
an unsatisfactory product. Admittedly, I know diddley-squat
about beta
testing, but would like to say here, I'd be interested in putting
my
name down for beta testing for future upgrades if they need
somebody.
I think the loss of both Dean and Jonathan has not helped
matters, as
Carol pointed out and hopefully, as the next financial year
progresses,
things will settle down at HumanWare.
I'm not sure whether I would be out of line here, but if those of
you
who choose to return to KS 7.1 inform HumanWare of your decision,
would
it be possible for your money to be refunded? Otherwise, I would
hope
that when all the bugs are fixed, you people should definitely
have a
free patch, as I'm sure you will have.
I know how frustrating inadequate technology can be so let's be
gentle
with each other. I commend HumanWare for everything they've done
with
this machine so far but also agree with Rusty that they need to
remain
vigilant of what the other companies are doing. After all,
whoever
thought Jonathan would defect to Freedom Scientific? I actually
emailed
him about the PACMate when it came out and he specifically said
he
didn't agree with the philosophy behind it because it was focused
on a
mainstream (sighted-friendly) platform, rather than one more
user-friendly for blind people (Keysoft).
I have not used a PACmate for a long time but when I did, I found
it was
not to my taste. However, I can find it tempting, simply because
it
provides more services, as it were. One can use Excel on it and,
if it
becomes able to utilize Braille music or programs like Sibelius,
it will
certainly be more user-friendly to me than the BN, which I much
prefer.
