Well thanks Tom - you have given me some hope anyway (smile) - yes when I review my active connection I get an IP address that seems out of kilter Ie: 169.254.67.etc. I've typed in my key so many times I know it by heart and have reset and in fact loaded Keysoft 7.2 while trying to get this going.

I have a linksys G router with one computer hardwired and one working wireless - it can handle 50 machines (the default). I believe it is running in infrastructure (at least that is what the wireless computer is showing). So I've setting the configuration as "infrastructure mode "yes" and shared authentication "no" and "yes" to automatically get an IP address.

when I go into the browser I get a "cannot find server or dns error".

Ever have one of those weekends?
Charlie.

Hi,

Greetings: I've received my Ambicom wireless card and have set up a configuration following the process as outlined in the manual. I seem to have a wireless connection when I check but when I try to read email or open the browser I cannot access - any suggestions of what to do?

I ran across the same situation just the other day when helping a friend set up for wireless. One of the best things that you can do is check the details of the active connection. Make sure that you have an ip address that looks similar to the addresses for other devices on the network, i.e. 192.168.1.101, 102, etc. If you notice an ip address like 169.254.x.x, that should raise a red flag right there. In a case like that, the router has given you what some would call a fallback address, which may indicate only partial authentication. Thing of the device having a partial connection, being a member of the network but having only a status of member at large, so to speak. That's what happened to my friend's BN, and in that case, the wep key was typed incorrectly. Make sure that if you're using wep, that the key is exactly as it should be. Once we corrected that wep key on the BN, bingo, everything was cruising along as it should be.

Oh, and one more thing, even if everything looks kosher in the active connection details and you still get that "can't find server" message, sometimes a simple reset will straighten things out. I know that the parameters for my wireless network are right on, but I still get that trouble every once in a while, and doing a simple reset will set things to rights.

I'm no network expert, but I hope this helps a little bit.

Tom
