Joseph,
How does one get into support information mode?
And, I have to say that I think the extent of your knowledge is wonderful!
Deborah

Matthew and list,
Rather than contacting you off list, this kind of question is easy for me to
anser, at the same time, it allows us to learn more about support
information mode.
Background: the Support Information Mode is a console window (that's what I
call it) where you can view various settings about the power and memory
usage. Mainly, it is used by tech support personnel at HumanWare, but some
of us on the list (myself included) utilize this feature.
Here are the switches:
A: Gauge Accuracy: this switch allows you to see whether the battery gauge
is accurate or not. When it is accurate, it should say: Gauge is accurate.
When it is not accurate, it should say: the battery gauge is not not
accurate enough to give percentage reading.
B: battery charging status: this switch allows you to view how long battery
has been charging. For example: battery has been charging since KeySoft
started, that is 15 minutes ago.
C: Battery capacity: this switch allows you to view the curent battery
capacity. The typica message is: battery capacity: 1780. The larger the
longer you can use your unit.
D: Last discharge capacity: this allows you to view the current capacity, as
well as the cuent designed capacity. The typical message on a 1800 MA
battery is: current capacity: 1780. Designed capacity: 1800. Like C switch,
the larger the number, the longer you can use your unit.
E: End of discharge voltage: This allows you to see the voltage when the
battery will discharger itself (it is not useful, but it allows you to view
the voltage where the battery can operate).
F: Battery calibration with log on Flash disk: this allows you to perform
battery recalibration with log that is saved on the Flash Disk. The log file will be named serial number battery cycle number.log where the serial number
is your serial number and the number is how many times you have run this
cycle.
G: Battery recalibration with log on KeySoft System Disk: same as F switch, except that the log will be placed on the KeySoft System Disk. Bare in mind that if you select G switch, the log will be erased, wheres if you select F,
it will be saved (I recommend F switch).
H: Deep hibernation: this allows you to put your BrailleNote to hibernation. This option is really useful if you are going to store your BrailleNote for
more than few weeks. You will need to press Reset (probably Service Reset
will do) in order to "wake" your BrailleNote. Same effect as dots 4-5-6
Reset will occur.
I: Inaccurate count: this allows you to see the battery cycle count.
J: average current: this allows you to see how much the BrailleNote is
drawing current. Useful if you want to know how much power it uses.
K: battery recalibration with forming charge: this allows you to recalibrate
your battery with forming charge (meaning it will basically start from
scratch). You should not use this switch.
L: last battery recalibration: this allows you to see the results of your
last battery cycle (it is not shown during normal usage).
M: Battery isolation (I have no idea what this is)
P: power level: this allows you to see the actual power level the battery is
at (same as power and battery status item).
R: battery recalibration: same as F and G switch, except it won't save a
single log.
S: charging status: this allows you to see whether the battery is charging
or not. If it is running from AC power, it should say "fast charging" or
"trickle charging" depending on the current power usage. If it is not, than
it will say, "discharging."
T: battery temperature: this allows you to see the current battery
temperature.
V: battery voltage: this allows you to view the current battery voltage.
W: battery recalibration with deep discharge: same as R switch, except that
it will discharge the battery deeply (almost opposite of K switch).
X: Braille display exercise: this allows you to exercise the braille display
(does not apply to VoiceNote uits), thereby allowing you to detect any
problemwith the display.
Y: Battery recalibration with continuous cycle: same as R switch, except
that it will recalibrate the battery continuously (in addition, do not use
K, W, and Y switches).
Z: Discharge and recharge test (again, I have no idea what this is.)
Space with I (Read+I): RAM usage: this allows you to see how much RAM
KeySoft uses (and this is the switch that I frequently use to determine
memory management if some software bug occurs).

I hope this information may help you.

Subject: [Braillenote] Support Information Mode

Hi,

Could someone contact me off-list with specific details on the usage of
Support Information Mode? (I've been playing around and found a lot of
options which either make no sense or have me worried!) Ideally, I'm
looking for a document in the following format:]
"M: Turns battery isolation mode on or off. this mode is useful when... or
serves ... purpose."

thank you in advance,
Matthew Horspool
