I can't answer your second question, but the benefits of upgrading to an
MPower are:
Faster processor speed
Twice as much RAM
Supports wireless and bluetooth connectivity
Supports USB
Buttons are not rubber, instead they're plastic
Display is quieter
Supports SD cards
However, if you upgrade, you'll no longer have parallel capability.
