If you are talking about something like 2 to the second power, or two to the 
negative second power. You would enter it as follows.

two to the second power
1. hit dots 2, 3 for the number 2
2. hit dots 4, 5 for the carrot or exponent indicator
3. hit dots 2, 3 for the number 2

two to the negative second power
1. hit dots 2, 3 for the number 2
2. hit dots 4, 5 for the carrot or exponent indicator
3. hit space with 3, 6 for the negative indicator
4. hit dots 2, 3 for the number 2
