Once I lost everything on my Compactflash card because I had a
lot of stuff in the none folder and thought it would be easier to
just erase the none folder, and it erased everything. I guess it
was because the none folder is the root directory. Has anyone
ever done this?

Did you do a reset with the cards still in the slots?
I have never had any problems but I do remove them before a reset
even if
the unit is locked up and doesn't give you the "sd card removed"
message.
