Subject: [Braillenote] using BN qt 32 as terminal for screen readers

Hi all.
I am new to the list and I am sorry if this discussion has already taken place.
I was trying to figure out how to use BN qt 32 as terminal for Jaws 7.
I am using a USB to serial adapter with my laptop. if somebody could give me detailed instructions how to work this out or could inform me Where to get the detailed information.
The manual hasn't helped at all.
In jaws options I set braille note as my remote braille display. I had no clue what to do next. When I assumed I had done everything that was needed, BN display as blank as blank it could be.

Thanks for any help.
Regards
St

Will this work if I do not have a data/internet plan?

To: Braillenote List <[email protected]>

Dear brailleNote List,

There has been a lot of discussion lately about setting up the
series 60
phones as a modem for the BrailleNote. I have found personally
the best way
to interface the phone and the BrailleNote is via bluetooth. The
phone that
I have is a Nokia 6682, and the provider is Cingular. The phone
information
may be irrelevant. If someone is wanting to use their phone as a
modem I
would recommend going with the unliminited internet package, as
daily
internet usages will add up rather quickly. I will outline in
detail setting
up the BrailleNote and the phone as a modem below.
Note: this will only work with either a mPower or a PK. I am
going to
provide BT instructions, as that is the type of keyboard I have.
If someone
wishes to add the QT in parenthesis next to the BT commands,
they can go
right ahead.

Paring
1. make sure that the blutooth feature on the phone is switched on
2. make sure visibility is set ot yes on the phone
3. turn the bluetooth on the BrailleNote side
4. it will ask, "search for devices?"
5. type in yes, it will begin searching, it will bring up a list
of
bluetooth devices within a radius of 10 meters.
6. Look for your phone and hit enter, it will bring up a list of
services,
select modem and hit enter.
7. It will promt for an authetication code, type what you would
like to be
your authentication code, make sure you use a number sign if in
grade 1 or
2, if in computer braille, then lower numbers, then hit enter
after you are
done.
8. A message will appear on your phone asking for the same
authentication
code, type it in using the keypad and hit select.
9. Now, both your phone and BrailleNote are paired and active.

Connectivity
1. From the main menu, press chord o to get into the options menu
2. press c for connectivity
3. Hit c to create a new dial-up or lan connection
4. for the connection configuration name (I would advise
switching to
computer braille), type wap.cingular and hit enter
(cingular must be spelt out when using computer braille)
dot is dots 4, 6
5. for the device to use, press chord 3, 4 until you get to your
phone and
hit enter
6. for the phone number (I would advise switching to computer
braille , by
hitting backspace with j), enter the following string *99***1#
and hit
enter.
* is dots 1, 6
9 is dots 3, 5
# is dots 3, 4, 5, 6,
7. for the service user name (I would again advise switching to
computer
braille, by hitting backspace j), type [EMAIL PROTECTED]
@ is chord u followed by dot 4
dot is 4, 6
(cingular must be spelt out when using computer braille)
8. service password can be left blank, and the rest of the
fields can be
left as their default.
9. It will prompt to add this record, type y for yes.
10. Everything is paired and configured
11. When you want to go onto the intenret or check emails,
it will prompt,
"connect using which configuration?" select wap.cingular

Enjoy using your phone as a modem.

Kevin
