i don't have a router, but what my question was to use the internet that the computer is getting from my cable modem with the bn via wi fi.

You are using so-called static IP address. The router should be configured to assign dynamic IP address. Alternatively, when you are setting up a connection configuration, say no at the prompt about obtain IP address, then type the address like this: 192.168.0.25. Then you won't have this problem.
