Hi Brandon:

The issue of using a bn or similar product to write algebraic equations is something every high school student could benefit from indeed, but it's an extremely complex task in today's Braille world. If you want one that would use Nemeth, you need a Nemeth translator as the Duxbury in Braille Note doesn't handle Nemeth code. The issue of spacing things out so they go in to print and look correct on paper is another huge programming task! Then there is the nasty issue of Braille versus Qwerty input and Tactile versus speech output. Also, the issue of teaching the blind high school population to use the product properly is a significant logistical issue that would have to be addressed if the product was to enjoy real success.

The only way something like this will ever happen is if some one makes an application that can run on the BN family. As much as blind people need it, I seriously doubt if any sensory access company will ever put it in to the factory software.

If some one were to want to make an application that would run on the BN family they would need a significant amount of money to go from developing a product like that to bringing it to market in a practical fashion. I certainly understand your desire and wish there was an organization that could take on such a project. In the US, APH would be a terrific organization for such a product but they would undoubtedly object to building it for a platform like the BN, they'd rather build it for something more common like a windows based pc. So it's both a technical and a marketing / organizational issue. There is so much more that be written about this but I'll stop here.

I agree with you and I also think that their should be a way to make algebraic equations in the calculator.
