Otherwise the accessory may not work with
your BrailleNote.
There are two supported wireless cards for
the Mpower:
Ambicom Wl-1100-CF rev 2.0 or 2.5 and
Sandisk Connect Plus 128 MB wireless card
with 128 MB memory,
also a CF card.
The Sandisk card was manufacture
discontinued last I heard but
some outlets like Tiger Direct etc seem to
have them now and
then. The Ambicom card is scheduled to be
discontinued in the
foreseeable future.
To use the Mpower with a LAN, you need the
Socket Communications
Low-Power Ethernet card with ruggedized
cable. It is the only
LAN adapter card that is supported.
The differences between the Classic and
Mpower:
Classic has a slower processor, 166 MHZ I
think, a parallel, and
serial port, a CF and PC/MCIA card slots
(one of each).
Built-in infrared port
Mpower has:
Faster processor,
CF, SD and PC/MCIA card slots (one of each)
Bigger flash disk built in
Built-in FM radio
Can stream audio from the web
Serial, USB host, (2 ports), USB Client,
Built-in Blue Tooth and
Infrared ports.
The Mpower also has a quieter Braille
display but I am told its
keyboard is noisier than the Classic.
Will you have to dial a phone number to
collect your e-mail?
Yes if you are using dial-up. In this mode
the Mpower's built-in
modem connects to your phone line and dials
out like any other
modem and your phone line is in use while
you are connected, so
other people cannot phone you and you cannot
use your phone for
voice calls while the modem is online.
If you have high-speed Internet service, No,
you don't dial any
telephone numbers with the Mpower but would
connect with your
high-speed Internet using either one of the
supported wireless
cards or the LAN adapter card.
High speed Internet lets you use your
telephone line even though
you are connected to the net and is great.
