To create the template:
1. Create a KeyWord Braille or text file, I assume Braille in this case. Put it whereever you want, but I think KeyBase defaults to the keybase folder, so it may be easiest to store it there. I recommend naming it "(database name) Braille template". 2. Write any text you want, as well as inserting (BACKSPACE+I) the fields from the database for which this template is intended. For example, write "last name: " in the template, then insert the "last name" field.

Some hints:
1. Put a few new lines at the end of the template; each record will be separated by those lines since they are written to the destination file each time a record is written using that template. 2. Put a name, date, title, and other one-time information in the destination file later; if you put it in the template, it will be repeated each time a record is written, since, like the blank lines, it is part of the template.

Section 10.9 of the User Guide deals with templates. I hope you get this to work, and sorry it took me so long. My BN keeps refusing to send this message. It says "0 email sent" and erases it each time I try.

Have a great day,
Alex

Ahhh! Thanks very much Alex. I thought it might be a template
problem.
The template name doesn't specify whether it is Braille or text.
I have
use Braille in the actual fields so maybe I need some simple
instructions about doing templates or at least where to look in
the
manual. Sometimes I find what I'm looking for is difficult to
locate.

Sorry to be a bother but a prompt reply would b e so much
appreciated.

Thanks also for the hint about the printer USB attachment.
You're
right; that's exactly what I need. What a blessing we have
people on
this list who can hit the nail straight on the list.

God bless you all!

Michele

The first thing that pops into my mind is the file format of your
template. It must be a keyword Braille file if you are exporting
to a braille file and keyword text if you are going to any other
type of file. You cannot have an MS Word template, but you can
put records in an MSW file using a KeyWord Text template.

I know this is not your question, but it sounds like you have a
regular USB cable; you need a printer USB cable, which has one
end shaped like a square with two of its adjacent corners cut
off. Just take the converter to any electronics store and they
should be able to help you out.

Good luck with everything.

Have a great day,
Alex

Subject: [Braillenote] Database Problem

Hi friends. I wasn't going to re-join this list until I had an
Mpower
but I'm in a bit of trouble and desperately need your help.

I have various assignments for TAFE which I have done using
Keybase
because they are things like logbooks and such. I found the
database
easy to use but cannot seem to transport the records into a
document. I
thought I followed the steps correctly but when I opened the
document,
it was empty.

This is what I did. I chose the "copy records" command from the
menu,
entered the name of the drive, folder and file etc, entered the
template name. I thought the manual told me that when the
selection
list came up, I was a to press enter if I wanted all the records.
However, as I said nothing came up. Could someone please tell me
what
I'm doing wrong?

I cannot print the records straight out because my printer is a
USB one
and although I have a serial to USB converter, I found that the
USB end
is too wide to fit into the printer's socket. I don't know what
else to
do.

If anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong or come up with any
other
brain-waves, I would be most grateful. The assignment was
supposed to
be in a couple of weeks ago but I've been slack and dragging my
feet
and now Ramona Mandy is off on holidays so there's no one I can
really
ask.

Thanks guys!

A very troubled Michele
