Thank you Rhonda, Stacey, James, and Jolene. I hope I didn't forget anyone
who aided me in figuring out how to navigate the NLS site. I love being
able to read Braille without carrying around a big book.

Thank you, and Happy and Blessed New Year to you all,
Lois

Hi Lois:

My instructions are not magazine specific, but hope they help.
Also, some people like to log in first, whereas I always log in
after. Anyway, here is the way I would do it on the QWERTY.

web site: www dot loc dot gov slash nls slash braille

1. When you open the NLS site, you will want to go to the
"search the online catalog section."

2. Press tab key to see the Author field. If you know the
Author, fill it in.

3. Press tab again, and you will be in the Title field. You can
either write in your title, or press tab until you see "KeyWord.

4. If you have chosen KeyWord, because you know the book number,
write the number in. If you have entered Author or Title, put
web braille in the keyword box.

5. Press tab until you see "search".

6. Press Enter.

7. Press Read with 9 until you see your book.

8. Press Down Arrow until you see http and press Enter.

9. At this point, you will log in.

10. Press Space until you see "real braille".

11. Press Space once more to enter your user name, which is the
one given to you by NLS.

12. Press Down Arrow to write in your password.

13. Press Down Arrow again. You will see: "Please read and
accept this pledge."

14. You will be asked to read a "pledge" form. Tab over until
you see the one that says best for notetakers."

15. Press Enter.

16. You'll hear beeps, and when you hear http again, press Ctrl
S.

17. Press Ctrl D at the "folder name" prompt, and make sure
you're in the "drive list" prompt. Select your folder you want
the book to be in.

18. Write the book name, and Press Enter.

19. It should pause before saying "saved".

20. If the book is in more than one volume, press Read with Left
Arrow to go back a page.

21. You'll be at the next volume location. You will see the
"pledge" at each volume, and will need to enter at the one that
says "best for Notetakers." Press Space to get to the next http
prompt. Press Enter. You will hear the HTTP again. Save by
pressing Ctrl S.

(Note: If a book is in several volumes, you may be blocked out of
the site and have to go back in.

There is nothing
like the gift of friendship.
I am so rich because of all of you.

Warm Regards,
Rhonda Clark
