Hello Les,
I know many BN users carry their unit on their shoulder. Since I use a Guide Dog and want my hands free, I usually carry a backpack. The BN, case and all, fits into it nicely. (I have a backpack that is just the right size for the Bn, with pockets for other things. On Sunday, I use the same backpack to carry my braille prayer books to Church. It is a really nice bag, not a sports backpack. I could be wrong, but feel thisis a safer way to carry the BN.) I know you would prefer to have time off when you are not hurting. However, my guess is you'll put the time to good use.
Take care.
KC
