Hi, there are three options with speech. One speech on, two speech on 
request and three no speech. When you have it on the second option speech on 
request you still here the beep when backspacing. You need to go to speech 
off to stop it, with this you will only have Braille and no speech at all. 
to do this you need to press the left outer thumb key  and space, you can 
cycle  through the three options this way.

Hi. I just received my braille note mpower 18. I'm wondering if there is
a way to silence the beep that's heard when  backspacing over a letter.
I'm thinking that might be a bit distracting during class or a meeting.
It occurrs even when I have braille turned on.
