When a battery ages, its capacity reduces.
If it continues, then in a short time, it
will die completely. Battery Calibration is
the cycle of battery charge/ddcharge. It
allows the battery monitor to see how much
power a battery has. Sometimes battery
monitors are "forled" to believe that it has
longer battery life than it really has. The
calibration updates these monitors to
understand "real" battery life. It is
recommended that you recalibrate your battery
once a while (typically between one to three
onnths).
By the way, Tom and others: the battery
recalibration does not complete in a space of
12 hours. It takes up to 15 hours to
complete it (2 hours for initial charge, 10
or more hours on discharge, and another 2
hours or so on final charge). It is best to
discharge your BrailleNote over weekends
where you won't use your BrailleNote for a
day or two, and I recommend that you charge
it in the evening so it can discharge itself
overnight and can be used by next morning.

Hi all,
I noticed earlier this week that my MPower
BT was showing me a battery
status with a recommendation for battery
conditioning, so I ran it flat
and recharged it. Since that didn't correct
the problem, I started the
recalibration process last night at around
10 PM Pacific time and it's
still chattering away like crazy; good thing
I have the volume very low.
Two questions: how long does this process
take? I've heard that it may
take up to 24 hours. Secondly, is the unit
effectively tied up while this
is going on or can I use a typical task
switching command to get me into
book reader or anything else that I might
want to use? Somehow I doubt
that, but before I try it and stop the
calibration without intending to, I
thought I'd ask.
