Absolutely Michele!

Blind musicians shouldn't be completely dependent on playing by ear; we just need to make the best use of the technology that is available at a given point in human history. Braille music on paper was a good start, but dynamic Braille that could use a much larger theoretical surface and vibration to knote time and perhaps be more easily converted in to print would be a huge blessing for blind musicians everywhere!

I regret that I didn't spend more effort on playing by ear and gave all my attention to Braille music when I was younger; if I had thought more along the lines that Joseph suggests I might have enjoyed it more and I might even still play, but I would never advocate doing away with a tactile means of reading music! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michele Thredgold" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

With all due respect, Joseph, that's okay for those of us who use our
ears but there are times when using Braille music is necessary,
especially when studying and working in class situations, as I pointed
out. Being able to emboss Braille music is not good enough in my
opinion, and is the biggest obstacle to me being able to have a theory
text book completely accessible on my BrailleNote. I currently have to
copy all the text fields out of the Sibelius version and then add side
notes indicating to where examples can be found in the Sibelius file.
There are also times when just listening can result in mis-spelling of
notes such as B flat or A sharp, unless one's hearing is absolutely
spectacular. It's for this reason that I'll continue to advocate for
it, because I'm finding the current set-up extremely stressful, when I
study better with Braille, rather than speech, although I also compose
better by ear.

Cheers!

Michele

Michele,
There was a discussion about it (a few months
ago) brought up by Terry about writing music
codes. You can write and emboss it, but you
cannot print it. (well, I don't use braille
music anyway with my BN because I usually use
ear-training).
Cheers,
Joseph PddS. and that's what I meant in my
original post.

Dear Joseph. You are not quite right about
writing Braille music with
the BN. You can write it, but you can't
print it out for lecturers.
The BN does not currently support the Braille
music code. Therefore,
it's back to the old Braille and then type
compositions up, that is if
needing to do stuff in class.

Cheers!

Michele

Martin,
BrailleNote is not a sound processor. USB
Audio Devices like MIDI devices are not
supported (there is no driver for it in
KeySoft). You can write Braille Music with
your BrailleNote, but you cannot actually
process digital to analog and analog to
digital converting in BrailleNote.
Cheers,
Joseph

Hi there,
I think the subject line says it all. Some
of you may remember the Eureka?
You know, the NoteTaker with the Nice
sounding Australian woman with a lisp?
I loved that thing. I had a chance to test
drive one once and had a great
old time composing music on it. It had a
wapping 3 voice processor. Well it
was wapping back then. I'm just wondering if
the BrailleNotes could be
engineered to do that sort of thing. If not,
then maybe they could be
coupled with a USB MIDI controller. You
could then compose the music and
have the BrailleNote spew it to a MIDI
Keyboard.
Just throwing out ideas. I just figure that
there are so many of us who are
musician, it's nice to have a NoteTaker which
can help you in htat sort of
thing as well.
Cheers,
Martin
