Dear Peggy:

I don't know what the concern about transformers is by the cruise
line. Transformers are pretty robust and a few x-rays won't hurt
them.

What you do want to know is what sort of electric outlets the
ship has, and whether their current is 120 volt 60 cycle like in
the US and Canada, or 220 volt 50 cycle like they use in Europe
and the rest of the world.

The ac adapter for the BrailleNote supplied to North America only
works with 120 volt 60 cycle current.

If the ship provides 220 volt power, you need the two-part
charger supplied to the rest of the world and available from
Humanware as it works on 100-220 volts, 50 or 60 cycle power.
But it will need the correct plug for the outlets on the ship as
all 220 volt plugs are not the same.

Note that in the Panama Canal Zone I believe they still use 25
cycle power but I doubt you would be plugging your unit into a
shore-based electrical outlet.

Oh the ac adapter for the BrailleNote is sort of a transformer
but I wouldn't worry about it being bothered by x-rays, just the
wrong kind of current.

Brian
