Hi Sharon,

Well, I hate it when this happens, and it has happened to me two or three
times when I've been away on vacation and tried to put more email on my PK
than I should at one time. Although, in my cases, I could always turn the
unit off and on, I just couldn't access the flash disk. Not sure, but I'm
thinking I just kept pressing enter to go through all those prompts, and
eventually I got out of them and could at least access the system disk.

There are, however at least a couple of ways to fix this--or, well, at least
a couple that I have either used or read about that have worked. One way
can
be found in a message John Gallagher posted to the list last August when he
had the problem:

http://list.humanware.com/archives/braillenote/2006-August/053933.html

The other similar way, I know about myself because Dean Jackson very nicely
talked me through it once, and then just gave me some instructions to fix
the
problem the second time it happened. I did pretty much the same thing as
John described in his message, except that I just used the HyperTerminal
program, and not the visual display program. I further used the double
serial cable that came with the PK, connecting one end into the serial port
of my PC, while of course connecting the other end into the all purpose
serial port
on my PK.

So, with the PK connected to the PC, I went to HyperTerminal and set up a
new connection, using com 1 in my case, 115200 bits per second and no flow
control. I then made sure the PK was completely off with a C1 and C4
reset/turn off.
I then held down the escape key on the PC while turning on the PK with the
C1 and C4. I then continued to hold down the escape key for about ten
seconds. I then pressed enter on the PC, I then typed the letters epsm and
pressed enter, and then I typed the letters ereg and pressed enter a second
time. I then performed another C1 and C4 reset on the PK and my flash disk
was back.

Subject: [Braillenote] serious problem with my PK

Hi, I woke up this morning and decided to check my email wirelessly so I
could read them while I ate breakfast. I put my Wireless card in my PK, went
to the options menu, configuration menu, wireless and turned it on. Then I
went to keymail and said read emails, inbox, when it said connect using
which configuration I pressed space to select my home account which is the
only one I have but it wasn't there. I tried this a number of times with the
same results I even tried typing in the name and got a response that it does
not exist. So I went back to the wireless menu and tried to connect that way
but all I got was searching for a connection. I then did a C3 C4 reset
thinking this might bring up the connection but instead I got the message
"operation language, press enter for English" so I pressed enter but it did
nothing. None of the keys would respond so I did a C1 C4 reset and then I
got the message "flash disk is not available, do a reset with no keys held
down" but the C3 C4 reset is no longer working, I can't turn it off using C4
the only thing that works now is the C1 C4 but every time I turn it back on
using these keys I get the same message. I have left out a few steps I did
along the way but they were all just reset with either the C3 C4 or the C1
C4 and each time I got one of the messages above.

I have rung my local Humanware person but I had to leave a message for them
to get back to me so I thought I would also try here to see what suggestions
people might have. I have to leave for work in a hour so it looks like I
will have to take my Classic today.

Thanks for any suggestions at the moment I will take anything.
