Same thing. The drive gives info about each of its memory blocks to the BN, and all that information passing can take a long time. The driver took the delay in recognition of a thumb drive from 30 seconds to .30 seconds, and for that I am ever greatful. There is really no way to speed up file browsing and drive info, as far as I can tell, without moving to a bigger processor. Please correct me on this; I am far from being any sort of expert.

Have a great day,
Alex

Hi Becky and list,
Another issue that several of us (me
included) experienced was significant delay
when retrieving drive information (SPACE with
i/READ plus i when focused on the drive). It
takes up to 10 minutes to just find out size
of a hard drive. The USB driver that Alex
wrote (I'm talking about Alex Bec of
HumanWare) did not fix this, although I have
to thank him for solving the drive speed
issue when recognizing USB devices.
Cheers,
Joseph

once i'm in the folder i have my music in, it
is easy to browse. just when i
go to my folder name, it takes along time to
bring up the files.
that's why i thought the USB driver would
help the speed

No. The speed of browsing files is caused
by the hard drive speed and the
inherent slowness of the USB interface. The
driver helps speed of
registration, but not actual browsing.

Subject: [Braillenote] question

Hello all,
i have a portable hardrive and am able to
play my music on it
using the BN. Scanning the drive doesnt
take long, but scanning the actual
folder where my music is located takes quite
a long time.
I'm thinking partly because i have so much
music may be part of
the issue, but am wondering would the USB
driver help to speed up this?
thanks,
Becky
