the display going blank isn't something to worry about, I think the drivers froze or something. just reset like your doing and I think you should be fine

I have not had my mPower go blank with the insertion of the wireless card, this is odd behavior. For the interfering boxes try using the backspace with q. I am sorry not to know the QT command. This often closes up the interfering box.
