Hi, Lachlan. For what it's worth, I have been listening to recorded DAISY books on my mPower for some months now. I have the same experience as you with the spoken title of the book being cut off before it is completely spoken, and this seems to happen with every book I listen to. I have not experienced the other problems you have encountered, but I usually increase the speech rate rather than decrease it, and I do not switch between the DAISY book and other documents, so that issue has never come up for me. The bitrate of 32 KB/s with a sample rate of 22,050 is quite usual on recorded DAISY material, and it has never caused me a problem. Neither has the eloquence speech versus Keynote speech. I have always used Eloquence without a problem.

Hi, I'm Lachlan. I'm new to this list, so please be easy on me. I've just started reading DAISY books on my Voicenote mPower, and I've experienced some strange issues. I've been in contact with Ramona Mandy about these issues, Ramona suggested that I could post these issues to this list, so that's what I'll do. I want to see if anyone on this list has had any of the issues that I've outlined below. By the way, I'm using a VoiceNote mPower QT with a hardware revision of RVC 6 S and I'm running KeySoft 7.2 build 47. I'm going to past the text of the messages that I sent to Ramona, this means that I don't have to type them all again. The messages are as follows, I'm sorry if the messages appear to be in a strange jumbled up order. Hi Sam. The VoiceNote crashed on a few other books, and I think it's because I'm using Eloquence. The only exception to this was a book called "A Man's got to have a hobby." That book didn't seem to cause the VN to crash. It would seem that the VoiceNote is more prone to crashing when reading DAISY books while using the Eloquence speech. When I received my DAISY player last week, I also received a sample CD from the library with a few daisy titles on it. These are all audio only books, and I've noticed that when I decrease the playback rate while the Narrator feature is turned on and the book is playing, the audio starts skipping every second, it sounds rather choppy. This doesn't seem to happen with the Plextalk User's Guide. I guess the reason why this is happening is because of the bit rate that these files are recorded at, it looks as if these files are encoded at around 32KPBS MP3. I just thought I'd let you know about this. I regard to sending you a sample of these books, I'm not sure if I can do that without sending you the entire book, the books are rather large. Thanks again. Lachlan Thomas. Hi Ramona and Sam. I've just discovered something I think you should know. I've got some DAISY books on my USB flash disk, and I have found that if I load a DAISY book into the book reader, then load a standard ASCII text file and read a bit of it, then go back to the DAISY book, this causes the VoiceNote to crash. I suspected something of the sort last week, but only had time to scratch myself today let alone try new things with the VN. I thought perhaps you both should know, and perhaps if you have any DAISY books, you could try this out yourself. Thanks again. Lachlan Thomas. Hi guys. I've just found out something most interesting. If I read a daisy book in the book reader, then read a document in the book reader, and then go back to the daisy book I was reading, in indeed another daisy book, the unit will crash. because I'm using a VoiceNote mPower, I have the choice of using either Keynote Gold speech or Eloquence, and I can only consistently produce the crash situation when using Keynote Gold, this doesn't seem to happen when using Eloquence. If either of you are using a BN or VN mPower, try doing this, and if you've been using Eloquence, switch to Keynote Gold, and it may be a good idea to reset or re-initialize your unit after switching to Keynote Gold. I find this to be very strange and most interesting, I can't understand why my VoiceNote does this. I've also noticed that if you switch back to Eloquence and then try to produce this crash situation without re-initializing you unit, it may crash. I've also noticed that when a daisy book is loading and you hear the progress beeps, the unit starts playing the title phrase, but then the title phrase stops playing, so you may only hear part of the title. I should point out that the daisy books I'm reading are audio only, they don't contain any text, except the headings. I wonder if this crash situation happens on the BraileNote PK, as that unit only has the Keynote Gold speech. Thanks again. Lachlan Thomas. Hi guys. I was wrong when I said that my VN doesn't crash when reading daisy books while using Eloquence, but it doesn't crash as often as it does when using Keynote Gold. The unit only crashes while loading a book, it doesn't crash while reading a book, nor does it crash when navigating through the book, or when you close the book and return to the main menu. This is rather confusing, I don't understand why my VoiceNote does this. I thought it would be more prone to crashing when using Eloquence, because Eloquence is more CPU intensive. Thanks again. Lachlan Thomas. I should say that the last message was also incorrect in the fact that the VoiceNote crashed consistently regardless ow which speech synthesizer I use. If anyone can provide any information on these issues, that would be wonderful. Thanks. Lachlan Thomas. ___ Replies to this message will go directly to the sender.
