Hi, Derek Roberts wrote: "What exactly is the service reset?" The service reset is only available on the BrailleNote MPower. It is sononymous to removing the BrailleNote's battery and immediately replacing it and is used in those rare cases where the BrailleNote has locked and standard resets do not unlock it; for example, where one tries to upgrade their BrailleNote using an SD card whose capacity is over 512MB.
"Is it all that dangerous?" The "danger factor" is subjective - it depends what action the BrailleNote is performing at the time of the reset. Naturally, if one is copying a large file to the Flash Disk or, possibly, the KeySoft System Disk, a service reset is likely to cause FlashDisk or KeySoft System Disk curruption as the data transfer is likely to be interupted "midflow". It would be somewhat similar to copying a file to an old 1.44 MB or, even, 750 KB floppy disk and, during the copy process, either removing the disk or otherwise interupting the data transfer (for example, disconnecting the computer). I certainly do not recommend performing the service reset whilst the BrailleNote is operating on battery power; that is, always ensure the AC adapter is connected and functioning before performing the Service reset, and then only perform the service reset if you have exhausted all other options. "What's with putting the [braillenote] at the beginning of the subject lines?" This is a feature of Mailman, the software that runs this list. It is implemented so that members can immediately tell that a given message has come from the list. Whilst some people are undoubtedly sorting their messages into separate folders and therefore find the [Braillenote] prefix annoying, message sorting is not, as yet, supported on the BrailleNote and so it is perfectly logical that HumanWare keep the prefix in place for the foreseeable future.
