Thanks for your message, Maurice. We have not heard from anyone from HW
in a good while and it is good to know that our needs our being
answered. I think many of us were getting worried that no one was
responding to the needs of the list. Thanks for giving us some
confidence that you all are working on the problems.
See all of you at NFB convention.

Subject: [Braillenote] Message from HumanWare on SSL and MSWord Support

Hello List Members,

We continue to monitor postings to the BrailleNote List and have noted
the
growing concern regarding the pending requirement for Secure Socket
Layer
(SSL) support by email service providers and the fact that this feature
is
not currently supported on the BrailleNote.

Please be assured we are aware of the requirement to support SSL on the
BrailleNote family and we will be releasing a new KeySoft version to
support this feature. The exact date for the release is yet to be
finalised, but it will provide enough time for users to make the
necessary
change to their email configuration and be confident that the SSL
support
is functioning correctly.

Many of you will also be aware that we also share your urgent desire to
provide comprehensive support for handling Word documents on the
BrailleNote. Unfortunately it is not a trivial task to implement a
robust
mechanism for handling the multifaceted Word documents that one is
likely
to encounter, and we do not wish to release a "half-baked" solution.
Ideally we would have liked to have incorporated the new Word support in

the coming SSL release, but due to the urgency of meeting the ISP's SSL
changeover date, this is just not feasible. Please be assured that we
have assiduously monitored comments from our Users concerning what you
expect with regard to handling Word documents, and this will be the main

thrust of the release following that providing SSL support. We also
acknowledge Microsoft's willingness to assist in this regard.

In closing, we would like to reiterate that we do appreciate the
comments
and expertise that is freely shared on the BrailleNote List and that
your
ideas and suggestions are not lost in the ether! We apologise that from

time-to-time questions directed towards HumanWare may go unanswered, but

be assured that this is not intentional.

All the best.

Maurice
