I don't know what could be causing your problem.
The obvious thing to do is perform all the various resets.
If they don't work, you could insert a space before starting your subject line. Depending on the actual cause of the problem, this may or may not count as a character.

Hello; Listers, I am having a big issue here.  O.K.  this is it.
everytime I send a message to any free lists mailing list the
BrailleNote always cuts off the first letter of the subject line.
For example I would put test on the subject line and when I send
it and receive it the subject line says est.  I talked to my Isp
and they said that nothing is rong with my email address.  They
even had me send a test message to a free lists mailing list
using the web and wel it was fine.  Please help me with my
dilemma.  please write back.
