This is an excellent idea.
Now, I'm wondering, will the driver work in Vista?
Curious. Because, Window-Eyes is currently light years ahead of the
competition when it comes to Vista.

Subject: [Braillenote] hot keys for BN QT with WindowEyes

Dear List,

I enjoy using the BN with WindowEyes, but I'd enjoy it even more if
there
were hot keys specifically designed with the QT model of the BN in mind.

Presently, there are only two choices: (1) BrailleNote and (2)
BrailleNote
with keyboard input. The "keyboard input" is designed for the BT
keyboard.
I'd like to see a third choice: BrailleNote with QWERTY input.

I have spoken with Tech Support for both HumanWare and GW Micro. GW
Micro
said the reason why we can't create hot keys using all of the keys on
the
QWERTY keyboard is the driver "passes" the key as a PC keyboard key
instead
of a BrailleNote key. If you try to create a hot key using, say, the
letter
b, an error message will appear: "not a braille key."

If others who use QT models and WE would like the hot key feature to be
enhanced, please let HumanWare and GW Micro know. (The HW person I
spoke
with said it was a WindowEyes issue.) I think it would be neat if the
QT
users could use the QT keyboard on the BN to input text, don't you?

I also suggested that HumanWare include a list of the hot keys for
WindowEyes in its manual or as a supplement so new users could have them
at
their fingertips. WindowEyes users can access the lists through the
control
panel, but it's a nuisance to need to refer to the list box all the
time.
The answer to that was, "We'd have to include the hot keys for JAWS and
Hal
and other screen readers." Well, that wouldn't bother me any!
HumanWare
could even post the lists on their web site and BN users could download
them. But I got the feeling it was up to the manufacturers of the
screen
readers to make such lists available. But, at least for WindowEyes,
people
from HumanWare created the hot keys so I can't see what the big deal is.
