Hello Everyone,
Ok, List members' And staff at human ware,
I do not think I understood much about why They want these things.
However, Just off hand I think that PDF support would be hard if not
impossible to do.
People who use computers' who are blind or visually impaired even have
a hard time using that type of file format!
Why would we be able too use it on the BRAILLENOTE / VOICENOTE!
Second: I hope very much that instant messaging is in the near future!
I am willing to wait some for it because I want it to work
Fantastically!
However, I can not wait to be able to do it on my voiceNote!
Third: Please slow down, calm down this is not a computer it's a P-D-A
so it more then likely will never I repeat and stress (NEVER) be able
to do a lot of things that a computer can do!
That's all I can think Of for now!
"I Am The Resurrection And The Life!"
"Yo Soy La Resurrección E La Vida!"
"GOD Give Me The Strength To Accept The Things I Can Not Change,
Courage To Change The Things I Can,
And The Wisdom To Know The Difference!"
I hope to hear from you again very soon!
May GOD BLESS You And Give You HIS PEACE!
Sincerely, In Our LORD And SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST, And Our BLESSED Virgin
MOTHER Mary, Kristen

Subject: re: [Braillenote] my wish list
Hi Bob and list,
Well, these are good suggestions (in my opinion). However, I'll
explain this first because we can go further:
There are things that BrailleNote cannot do while a PC can. The
reason: This is due to the design of the BrailleNote. Windows CE
devices are meant to be PC companion, not PC replacements. Also,
hardware limitations must be put into consideration, as there are
features that, if they are added, could destroy current hardware.
In order for some of Bob's suggestions to come alive, a major
fundamental hardware change is needed.
Here are my comments and opinions regarding Bob's suggestions:
1. Amplitude Modulation (AM) support: this requires fundamental
changes to the hardware. Also please note that AM uses more
hardware resources than FM does. But I view that it can be
useful.
2. Auto advance of braille display: I believe that it can be
implemented, however, there should be a universal setting to
determine this.
3. Keybase: It is actually implemented. (I'll definitely
mention this in my BrailleNote podcast. The first letter
navigation to choose field type can be useful, though.
4. Email: You'll actually need to create this particular folder
in order to do it. The User Guide only tells you examples of
folders that you can create. Also, My Email is not one of seven
default items (this is why it is not mentioned).
5. Voice memos: This isn't possible, as hardware only supports
recording in mono. Also, if this is implemented, be aware that
it will use tons of hardware and software resources. Although
the CPU on the mPower supports encoding and decoding media files,
it does not, however have capabilities to convert from mono to
stereo (you'll need a special codec designed for it).
6. Voice memos: Yet another hardware change should be made in
order for the microphone to take advantage of this. This
particular feature cannot be implemented because it is a hardware
thing, not a software thing. Although Noise Reduction can be
used, it will eat a lot of resources.
7. Hiding some prompts in Options Menu: The prompts "Spell" and
"Repeat with punctuation" are there as a help device. It is
especially useful for VoiceNote products. These two commands
supplements Repeat command (SPACE with r/REPEAT key).
8. Internet options menu at the Address prompt: An excellent
suggestion. Can be beneficial.
9. Web browser (progress tones): Actually, it is already there.
10. File manager (moving folders): An excellent suggestion.
11. File manager (percentage indicator when copying folders): In
my opinion, it should be implemented on files as well as folders.
12. Keyplus (converting decimals to fraction): That is an
excellent suggestion.
13. File Manager (elimination of folder name file): Actually,
you cannot remove these files, as file systems need it in order
to track folders.
14. Options menu (appearance of Spell option in Media Player):
This option is useless as media files are not text and are
treated differently.
15. Database in keylist or keybase: COULDB files are system
(Pocket Access files); because system needs it, it must be
protected from accidental editing.
16. General (elimination of stutter when inserting network
cards): This is because of the sound driver's interference with
network card drivers. This requires an update to the sound card
driver.
17. Keybase: This is rather a system algorithm to keep files and
folders intact. This thing happens with not just KeyBase files,
but with all applications. To eliminate this, an upgrade to
Windows CE is needed.
18. Voice memos: What if someone needs to hear the memo again?
But I think this can be implemented, as this is critical when
copying large notes.
19. General (pronunciation): There is a workaround, and it is
to use Pronunciation Dictionary. In order to do this, the
pronunciation table must be updated.
20. Wordprocessor (computer braille in file names under BRF and
KeySoft 2.0 files): These are computer files that are designed to
work with computer programs (especially BRF files) such as
Duxbury. Another reason: usually extensions are in computer
braille, so in order to keep the file title intact, computer
braille is used on the file name as well.
21. Database in Keylist or Keybase: Can you describe further
about this?
22. Wordprocessor: This is not supported in Windows CE 4.2 (it
requires at least Windows CE 6.0).
23. General (inclusion of CSV file creation and recording FM
Radio in User Guide): Why not. But please remember that a CSV
(Comma Separated Values) file is actually an Excel file, and the
quality of FM Radio recording depends on reception. I'd think
that it is useful.
24. Keybase: These are needed especially by database engines for
reference purposes.
25. General: Good suggestion for HW staff.
26. General: Actually, it is already present in General folder.
This is because Xbase technology uses General Public License.
27. General (inclusion of Character Count in Information Menu):
That could be useful.
28. Notification: These are actually system notifications and
there are no way to stop it. Although a workaround can be
developed by HW.
29. Spell Checker: Cool. I think it can be simple as not
counting caps as part of a word.
30. General (disappearance of GPS item in Task Menu for QT when
GPS is not installed): That can be a life saver.
31. General (inclusion of FM Radio in Task Menu on QT): I've
tested this and it should be implemented.
32. General (PDF translation): PDF support is not even included
yet. In order to do this, PDF support must be included.
33. Inclusion of PDF support: HumanWare is still trying to do
this.
34. File Manager (mark): This is useful to check file contents
before deleting the file itself.
35. User Guide update: You'll need to contact Kate Dasler at
HumanWare (or whoever the Technical Author is) to discuss about
User Guide changes in detail.
36. (Notification: This requires changes in notification
algorithms. Messages like "Connected" is a system prompt.
37. (Formatting: This particular setting is document-specific
and it is temporary (I'll explain this further in my podcast,
though).
38. Table support: Yet again, this requires Windows CE 5.0 to
take advantage of this feature. This also requires introduction
of special symbols for display tables.
39. Planner: That requires introduction of comment lines.
40. Web browser and Email: This requires introduction of HTML
email. Also, the softwares in question must be rewritten to take
advantage of this, which could take time.
41. General: Actually, this depends on what you set in Date and
Time set option in Utilities. This is a universal setting,
meaning that it will apply to all applications.
42. Email: I guess that can be done.
43. Auto-advance when thumb keys are off: I think this can be
implemented in limited form, because auto-advance DOES rely on
thumb keys for speed.
These are some of my comments to Bob's suggestions. I would say
that they are excellent suggestions.
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: [Braillenote] my wish list
July 2, 2007
Dear list,
I have several things I want to see added in the future. They
will be described just as they are in the readme files.
1. a.m.. fm radio: Now your radio has just gotten a whole lot
better. Now instead of just listening to your favorite fm
stations, you can now listen to your favorite a.m.. stations.
2. Auto advance of braille display: Now when you switch
applications you no longer have to press the command that turns
on the auto advance every time.
3. Keybase: Now you can change the field types and if there is
more than one field type starting with the same letter, keysoft
will now rotate between the field types in the field definition
list. This change is also applied when in the field options
list.
4. Email: This correction applies to the description of the
folders in the user guide. I think if there is going to be a my
email folder that it should be mentioned in the list of folders
instead of just when there is a prompt to move an email to a
folder.
5. Voice memos, Now you have the option of changing the sound to
stereo.
6. Voice memos: Now when something comes out of the loud speaker
it is no longer fuzzy.
7. This change has been applied to the options menu: When in a
menu the spell repeat and spell and the here punctuation options
will not appear unless there is something to spell or hear the
punctuation of. For example, when in the main menu it does not
spell out main menu, so the spell repeat and spell and the hear
punctuation options will not appear.
8. Internet options menu: Now you can access the internet
options menu from the Url prompt.
9. Web browser: Now the web browser gives progress tones every
few seconds to let you know if something is happening when
connecting to the web or Email.
10. File manager: Now an option for move folder has been added
to the folder manager menu.
11. File manager: When copying a folder you can now obtain a
percentage of completion.
12. Keyplus: Now you can enter decimal points into fractions.
13. File Manager: Now when you create a folder there is no
longer a folder name file.
14. Options menu: Now the spell repeat and spell option appears
in the media player.
15. Database in keylist or keybase: Now when you move or coppy a
database the CDB file is no longer protected automatically.
16. General: Now the speech doesn't stutter when you have a
network card in.
17. Keybase: Now when you use a database on a memory drive or
storage card it reverts to the Keybase folder on the flash disk
instead of the none folder on the Keysoft system disk when the
drive is removed after using the database.
18. Voice memos: Now when you play back the memo using the enter
with M command, the media player commands no longer overwrite the
keyword commands.
19. General: Now the keynote gold synthesizer speaks words
correctly in context.
20. Wordprocessor: Now when you create plain braille files or
Keysoft version 2 braille documents you no longer must use
computer braille for the file name.
21. Database in Keylist or Keybase: Now when you obtain
information on the database it no longer gives the wrong time of
last modification.
22. Wordprocessor: Now an incompatible word document can be
translated into a compatible format.
23. General: Information has been added to the database manager
and media center chapters about, Database manager: how to create
a csv file and Media center, how to record the radio.
24. Keybase: if a database record contains numbers a quotation
mark is no longer placed around the commas in the CSV file.
25. General: In the spelling checker when you press the space
with dots 1-4 command the sentence is now displayed and spoken,
(assuming that you have both braille and speech on)
26. General: Now information explaining more clearly what the
xpase library is has been added to the user guide.
27. General: A character count has been added to the information
menu.
28. Now when the brailleNote notifys you that you lose
connectivity it no longer stops reading.
29. spelling checker: now when you correct a misspelled word
with a word in the dictionary it leaves capitals as they are.
30. General: now the navigation using Gps will not appear in the
task list accessed by function with S if you don't have the
software for the gps.
31. General: Now the Fm radio appears on the task list accessed
by function with S.
32. General: Now pdf files translate correctly into other
formats.
33. Now you can read pdf files.
34. Now when you have files marked in the directory option you
no longer have to unmark all items before you open a file. It
will just open the file your on in the list.
35. Now updates have been added to the file manager and dazy
book reader chapters of the user guide. In the file manager
chapter, in the example of the document information the date is
written as it is said, for example: May 24, instead of 24 may. It
also says 945 instead of 945 bytes which it should say. In the
daisy book reader it says most daisy books are too large to store
on the flash disk of your BrailleNote Pk. If you have a
BrailleNote Pk nothing has been changed but if you have another
type that type is in the user guide. For example: most Daisy
books are too large to store on your BrailleNote MPower
